Is it just me, or does it feel like everyone thinks they’re a photographer now? Phones with inbuilt cameras, and the rise of social media channels such as Snapchat, have seen the ‘selfie’ becoming a popular social interaction between friends. However, we’re not convinced that the selfie is such a good thing—hear me out as I take my stand on the ‘Selfie Soapbox’.
We All Love A Selfie: Are They Really That Great?
At Johanna Elizabeth, our Havant Photography studio, my team and I welcome you through our doors, whilst encouraging you to champion your body in all its regular glory. But when it comes to selfies, I feel that they present a very wrong perception of our lives. Sadly, we appear to be living in a culture where it’s acceptable to portray the ‘best bits’ of our lives online, which consists of posting selfies that have been taken in great light, making sure the camera takes your “good” side and applying Instagram’s “Mayfair” filter for even more affect afterwards.
Yes, it can be fun and it does feel great to share a good looking snap of yourself, but now we’re living in a society where we are surrounded by people taking photos of themselves on a daily basis, pausing in the middle of the street just to pout at the camera. What happens if we stop editing our lives so much, and try and look at everything with more natural positivity? Wouldn’t that be great?
What would I love to see?
I would love to see more pictures of you that are real and happy; capturing the beauty of the everyday through images that haven’t edited your shape or your size. I’d like to see less cheek bone editing and the use of more traditional photo techniques. Basically, I’d like to see more #NoFilter !
If you’re wanting to know more about what I’m talking about, take a look at the beautiful women in our blog and read their inspiring stories about the reason they decided to take their turn being shot as a ‘beautiful, real woman, in our gorgeous photography boudoir.
I know we all like to post pictures from time to time for a little “selfie-esteem,” but at Johanna Elizabeth, our photographs couldn’t be further from the selfie. Our boudoir sessions champion real-woman experiences, and offer much more than a photoshoot. With us, it’s not just about having your photo taken, we help you reclaim your body confidence. My team and I just love showing show you exactly how fabulous and sexy you are! I don’t believe women have a “good side” to be photographed and definitely don’t believe you should be editing out all the bits that make YOU beautiful.
Would you like to embark on a journey of selfie-less discovery with us? Then let’s have a chat about boudoir and what a wonderful experience it is. I’m all ears (and less pout!)
