Pregnancy Portrait Frequently Asked Questions

The entrance to the Johanna Elizabeth photography studio

Q
Are you an all-female team?

A
We absolutely are.
Very rarely, Johanna’s husband visits on ‘non-shoot’ days as our maintenance guy (diet coke break?)
Other than that we’re all girls together, all carefully handpicked – the best in the industry.

Q
Will you share my portraits?

A
ONLY with your written/signed permission.
We are very used to being commissioned by professionals whose portraits must never be seen in the public domain.
Your portraits are even saved on a locked away, password-protected server (not cloud) under a number, not your name.

Q
How do your clients know how to pose? They look like models!

A
Thankyou so much! We work very hard to ensure that every portraits has a touch of finesse.
We will pose you down to your little finger, even pose your hair!
We know how stupidly awkward you suddenly becomes when a camera is pointed at you. “What should I do with my hands”?!

Q
When should I book my session?

A
Don’t wait, that’s our advice.
As it is, we are often fully booked 8-10 weeks in advance, with a waiting list for sooner shoots!

Ideal shoot date is 32-36 weeks of pregnancy. It really depends on the shape you’re carrying! Too soon and you might wish you’d been ‘more’ pregnant. Leave it too late and you’ll feel uncomfy or even give birth before the shoot can happen!
(Johanna had both her babies at 36 weeks!)

We’ve got you!

You can find out all about our shoots and all that’s included here!

Your boudoir photoshoot prints and wall art are displayed in our studio

Q
How will I select my chosen collection?

A
You are invited back to your Reveal Session a minimum of 10 days after your big shoot day.
This is always ‘in house’ with us.
We often book this at your design consultation so you know when this will be and can plan accordingly!
We don’t save unordered portraits, so you are strongly advised to plan well!

Our shoots don’t include any images/portraits.
‘Starting from’ portrait costs can be found here, full details are given at your Design Consultation!

For your convenience, we do take PayPal Credit AND have partnered with Klarna.

Q
Can my partner be in the portraits?

A
For sure! Such a lovely way to celebrate this incredible journey you are BOTH on.
It’s noted how partners can be sidelined in pregnancy, now’s the chance for them to be as involved as possible.
(Reassure them, if they’re shy, their hands will do!)

Let’s create something really special! If you want them to join you, just mention this at your booking call.

Please note: your partner must attend our Design Consultation.

Q
Are you LGBTQ+ friendly?

A
Absolutely!
We welcome everyone into the studio and love to celebrate diversity.
We’ve helped many members of the LGBTQ+ community explore and create the most incredible and emotional portraits.
You can be assured of a non-judgmental and safe space, with a dash of excitement!

Q
What can I wear?

A
We will go through all of this with you at your consultation, lots of advice is given!
You can go from snuggly jumpers to super glam, anything goes.
We have A LOT of gorgeous props and accessories.

Maybe you also have a few items ready for baby? Booties, babygro, blanket?

Q
How can I prepare?

A
The team will send you a handy ‘Preparation Guide’ that literally maps out all the bits you need to consider on the run up to your big day.
We truly do hold your hand every step of the way!

Q
When are your shoot days?

A
We shoot on weekdays.
We’re usually fully booked up 8-10 weeks in advance, so plenty of time to book a well-earned day off for your experience.
Reveal Sessions can be on a Saturday, if that helps?

Q
How much retouching do you do?

A
As much as you’d like really.
We don’t change you into someone else though.
Your makeup artist will compliment your look in a polished way, what’s not to love about that?
We create your portraits beautifully ‘in camera’ with gorgeous posing and flattering lighting (we wish a softbox could follow us around all day!) then they receive a final polish in post-processing.
Rachel can remove scars/blemishes and most tattoos on request, just ask.

Q
How long does the shoot last?

A
You are with us for 3(ish) hours. It may seem ages, however it goes super-fast!
Your hair & makeup takes an hour and then it’s all shoot!

We will be stopping to ensure regular drinks and snacks for you.

Q
I’m travelling across the country to shoot with you, where can I stay locally?

A
We are lucky to have some very lovely hotels close by and Airbnb. Our area is a popular holiday destination!
Details can be provided on request.
