Here’s another instalment in my new Boudoir Series, focusing on some of the INCREDIBLE journeys my clients have faced and are facing.
I aim to share, inspire and celebrate their strength and touch on how their boudoir photoshoot with me has had a positive impact on their journey.
So, here’s Allie and her inspirational journey. She realised that it was time to be brave and celebrate herself. Allie, I’m so proud of you!
Allie’s Story…
“I so nearly didn’t go through with my photoshoot at Johanna Elizabeth. It feels very indulgent (dare I say vain) to have photos taken of yourself, buying some lovely things to wear and even thinking about having someone spend time taking pictures of you…. in fact, I lay in bed one morning and said to my husband that I wasn’t going to go through with it.
“Why not? I think you should”, he replied. “Celebrate you for once, what you’ve achieved and who you are.” It was these words that rang in my ears as I drove over to Havant.
A celebration of being fitter than ever!
In the last 18 months, I have taken hold of my fitness and health, worked out, dieted and lost 3 stone. Age was creeping up on me faster than I wanted it to, everything ached first thing in the morning so I decided to do something about it. With the help of a PT and a gym community, I am fitter than I’ve ever been and physically stronger.
I have two girls and they are about to go through that challenging period of their lives when they grow up and become teenagers. It was really important to me to show them that everyone is beautiful large or small, tall or short.
Jo and her team listened to what I wanted (and didn’t want) from the shoot. From the moment I arrived, I felt understood and comfortable.
Time to be brave and celebrate
It was hard work folks! These ladies who do this for a living work hard! Jo and the team were brilliant at ensuring they got the photos right too. Putting up with my super long legs, teaching a girl who is definitely not used to being in front of the camera all the tips and tricks to get some lovely shots.
After the shoot, if you would have asked me if I would do it again, I would probably say no. But since I have had my reveal session with my husband I have totally changed my mind.
The photographs were just so lovely, I had worried that I wouldn’t like them, that they might not show me how I see myself. How wrong I was! In fact, it made me question why I see myself so negatively much of the time.
Powerful portraits of strength, beauty and courage
Doing something like this takes bravery for all sorts of reasons, but how often do you take some time to focus on you, photographs aid the memory. Yes, it means being vulnerable, but all the photos I’ve seen from Johanna Elizabeth always seem to tell a story of strength, beauty and courage.
What better way to celebrate you than that? So in the words of my husband, ‘Why not? Celebrate you for once, who you are and what you have achieved.’
Congratulations Allie!
What an incredible celebration – I’m so pleased you were brave and joined me!
