I’ve always been an artist, my office is full of paints, brushes and paintings.
So, this next step feels like a very natural progression.
Whilst down my usual Pinterest mindless rabbit hole, I scrolled past an image of a hip and it’s painted gold stretchmarks.
I was stunned. I scrolled back. Wow.
I asked a few clients, if they too had skin that would look incredible with this art upon it?
A resounding YES.
We all have marks upon our skin that we ‘often’ perceive as flaws.
Could I create something even more special, a step on from my VERY popular ‘All of Me’ shoots?
A resound YES again!
So, I researched gold body paints, grabbed two willing models and got arty.
Did we have fun, or what?
During shoot 1, my model mentioned a story I’d already seen (it’s all over socials, meaningful quotes etc) and it might be familiar to you too!
In Japan, there’s an ancient story and belief, where broken objects are sometimes repaired with gold.
This object’s flaw, is seen as a unique piece of it’s history.
The gold addition simply adding to it’s beauty.
Now, I LOVE this.
However, something made me pause.
The woman in front of me is NOT broken, or flawed.
This is a perceived flaw, one that society insists we believe, and then we end up believing it too.
So let’s re-frame this tale into what I believe.
“Every line, every scar is a rich tapestry. Showing the life your body has carried you through.”
If I can help ONE person recognise the power in this – help them celebrate the art of their body – I can rest easy.
Beautiful, isn’t it?
But Wait! There’s more.
I thought I’d do a little research into the colour of gold. What I found is so very meaningful.
Found on the tinterweb:
“Gold symbolises the purity of the spiritual aspect of “All That Is”.
It is symbolic of spirituality and development in the realm of complete understanding, allowing one to both attain and maintain communion with the source of all being.
Gold has been called “the master healer”.
It is an excellent mineral for purification of the physical body.”
Then…
“Gold is synonymous with divinity and power. Associated with the divine, gold represents enlightenment & transformation‘
So, there you have it. I am HERE FOR IT.
Gold.
Bodies.
Self love.
Celebrating.
Healing.
Have I mentioned lately, I bloody love my job?
Besides, my cousin Jenni says it’s ‘Arty AF’ – so that’s another reason to create these!
‘Let me celebrate the flaws you FEEL are broken. Let’s make art together.’
